Ajmer is a city in the Ajmer district in
Rajasthan state of India. Beautiful city, Ajmer, is also
called Ajaymeru during the rule of Prithviraj Chauhan.
Having a population of 5,00,000 in 2001, Ajmer is located on
the lower slopes of Taragarh Hill in the Aravali ranges. A
beautiful city enclosed by the impressive Aravali Ranges is
located in the center of the Rajasthan State. There is a
artificial lake, Anasagar, located to the north of Ajmer.
This artificial lake is embellished with Baradari. Baradari
is a structure of marble stones.A Sufi Saint Hazrat Khwaja
shrine is situated in Ajmer, Rajasthan.It is known as
afamous gateway to Pushkar city. Ajmer is an significant
pilgrim center for muslims. It is connected by broad guage
railway junction to Jaipur and Marwar, Ahmedabad and Mumbai
to Bangalore. The city has emerged as a trade center for
manufacturing goods through the railway networks. The
manufacturing goods of this trade center include wool
textiles, hosiery, shoes, soap and pharmaceuticals. A major
source of income is poultry farming here for urban farmers.
Kishangarh is an adjoining city of the Ajmer city.
Kishangarh is among the largest marble and marble products
market. The Dargah Sharif of Kwajha is located at the foot
of the Taragarh Hill. The Dargah is made up of white marble
buildings arranged around the courtyards. Courtyards include
the huge gate donated by Nizam of Hyderabad, a mosque
donated by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the tomb of the
saint and the Akbari mosque. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan
used to come here every year with his wife to be blessed by
the gift of a child of their own. Taragarh Fort is believed
to the first fort of Asia. It is said that it was built when
the Aravalli Ranges were above the snow lines. It is the
most oldest hill fort in India. This fort is the seat of the
Chauhan rulers, built by King Ajaypal Chauhan overlooking
Ajmer. A Jain temple, The Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra, built in
1153 but Qutubuddin Aybak transformed it into a mosque after
1193. It is located on the lower slope of the Taragarh Hill.
The Magazine is the city’s museum. Earlier, it was the
residence of Prince Salim who was son of the Emperor Akbar.
Now, It houses the collection of the Mughal and Rajput
armour and sculpture. Ajmer is quite good for weekend
holidays. Beautiful back-alleys down the small streets is
quite nice here.

By Train
From Delhi, You can take The Delhi-Ahmedabad
Mail, a overnight train. Ajmer Shatabdi Express
is another better option to reach Ajmer in
lesser time. There are passenger trains in the
morning and evening to Jaipur that linked to
Ahmedabad. Ajmer is alos linked to Udaipur city.
For this, Intercity Express is a better option
to reach.

By Bus
You can reach Jaipur in 1.5 to 3 hrs by road. On
the opposite side, Jodhpur is 4 to 5 hrs drive
away. Near the Jain temple, you can find the
buses to Pushkar.
