Bharatpur is the city of great historic
past in the state of Rajasthan in India. It was founded by
Maharaja Surajmal in 1733. Bharat pur has a significant
place in the history of Jat as it was ruled by Jats only.
Earlier, it was a secure, well-entrenched city located in
Mewat region. Bharatpur was the capital of the kingdom
governed by Jat maharajas. It is located on an avg elevation
of 183m(600 ft). Bharatpur is also known as Lohagarh. It is
very much famous for Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary. Bharatpur is
titled after Bharata, a brother of Lord Rama. Laxman,
another brother of Lord Rama, I sthe family god of the
Bharatpur Royal Family. It has been believed that Bharatpur
was founded by Lord Aditya Consul in early 17th century.
Lord Aditya built a state in the Mewat region which is
located in the south of Delhi. Its capital was located at
Deeg. This state was enclosed an area of 5,123 km2 and the
rulers glorified with a salute of 17 guns. This state
allowed unto the regency of India in 1947. Bharatpur was
submerged with three neighbouring states to form the “Matsya
Union” and again merged with two territories alongside the
state forming the present Bharatpur state of Rajasthan.
Keoladeo National park is is developed by Maharaja Bharatpur.
It was known to be duck hunting reserve for the Maharajas
where you can find numerous aquatic birds from Afganistan,
China, Turkmenistan and Siberia. It is the major wintering
area. This park recorded of having 364 species of birds with
rare Siberian Crane. The word ”Keoladeo” is borrowed from
the ancient hindu temple of deity of Shiva located in the
central zone of the sanctuary. In hindi language, “Ghana”
word means dense, thick region enclosed with forest cover.
Best time to visit here is during the month of October and
November. At this time, there are lots of migratory birds to
see. It is rare to get a sight of birds other than this
period. You can admit in the sanctuary with just a fee of Rs.
200 and with optional driver costs Rs. 100 an hour. If you
want to take a guide, it costs you Rs. 150 an hour. One more
way to see the sanctuary is to hire a bike at the hotel
costing Rs. 40 per day. Lohagarh Fort or Upardangghari Fort
is the only fort which is invulnerable in India. Lohagarh
Fort is considered as the one of the gems in the great crown
of Jats. There is also a museum in the fort.

How To Reach |

By Air
There is Bharatpur Airport located near
the city center.
By Bus
There is local bus service is available
to Agra having fare of Rs. 40 . It takes
90 minutes to reach Agra from Bharatpur.
To Jaipur, it costs Rs 90 with five hrs
drive by road. There is bus service
available to Fatehpur Sikri in UP, Deeg
andAlwar with the fare Rs. 12, Rs. 15
and Rs. 45 respectively. These buses
leave at bus station and also beside
Tourist reception center.
By Train
There is Janata Express having number
9023/4 depart from New Delhi from 1:45
pm and arrives at Bharatpur at 8:05 am.
Second class fare is Rs. 68 and Sleeper
class fare is Rs. 121.
Six Trains are available to Sawai
Madhopur everyday with a 2nd class fare
of Rs. 78 which takes four hours and
then at kota with fair of 2nd class of
Rs. 43 and sleeper of Rs. 121 which
takes 6 hrs to reach.
By Road
- From Delhi
There is NH2 till Mathura located 45 km
from Bharatpuron a small road. You can
reach here by the Highway along the
Mathura Road of Delhi while coming from
South Delhi or Delhi Airport, take
Aurobindo Marg(Mehrauli Road) and take
NH2 via Tughlakabad.
- From Jaipur
There is a NH 11, a two lane undivided
highway that connects Bharatpur with
Jaipur. It is located 200 km away and
can be covered in less than 4 hours.
