Bikaner is located in the northwest of
Rajsathan in western India. Bikaner city is the
administrative headquarters of the district.Rao Bika has
founded this city in 1486 and it is the fourth largest city
in the state of Rajasthan.Bikaner is also known as Green
City. Bikaner is situated at an average elevation of 243 m
above sea level. Bikaner is the largest district in the
state of Rajasthan. As Bikaner is located just in the center
of the Thar desert, this results in little rainfall and high
temperature limits to extremes. The temperature soars to
50oC during the summer season and dips to freezing point in
winters. This city is quite popular for its “Bikaneri
Bhujjia” and its sweets. A spicy snack made up of moth dal,
spices and edible oil is quite tempting. Handicrafts and
leather goods of Bikaner city is also very popular. Camel
Farms and Palaces of Bikaner are worth watching here.
Complex carved Jharokhas are also famous of Bikaner. In the
Junagarh Fort, you can find jalis of red sandstone in the
jharokhas. These jalis are basically designed for
ventilation of fresh air. These jharokhas are also for the
women to watch outside being hidden within the building.
These red sandstones are supplied here by the adjoining
Dulmera Village. Laxmi Nath Temple is located in Bikaner
city and one of the oldest temple of Bikaner. Junagarh Fort
was established by Raja Rai Singh. Raja Rai Singh was the
6th ruler of Bikaner from 1571 to 1612. Laxmi Nivas Palace
is the palace of Maharaja Ganga Singh located in the city of
Bikaner in Rajasthan state. Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob
designed the architecture of the palace. Now, it has become
the luxury hotel possessed by Golden Triangle Fort & Palace
Pvt. Ltd. It is among the famous tourist place of Bikaner
district in Rajasthan in western India. Bikaner is quite
famous for namkeens and sweets. There is a separate market
for the Bikaneri Bhujjia known as Bhujjia Bazaar.
