Mount abu is the only hill station located
very close to the Rajasthan-Gujarat border in the Aravali
hills. It is situated at an elevation of 1220m. This
mountain forms an apparent rocky plateau which is 22 km long
by 9 km wide. Mount Abu is the highest peak located in the
Aravali range of the State of Rajasthan in western India.
The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar, located at
1722m above sea level. Mount Abu is located 58 km from
Palampur in the Sirohi district. The Ancient name of Mount
Abu is Arbudaanchal. There are no of Jain temples situated
here. Dilwara Temples are a complex of temples. Architecture
of these temples is based on white marble built in the 11th
and 12th centuries AD. The Lun Vasahi Temple was built in
1231 AD by the brothers Vastupal and Tejpal, Who belonged to
the Porwal Jain community. Achalgarh Fort is also stands
closeby, built in 14th century by Rana Khumba of Mewar. The
Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary was established in 1960 and it
is stretched over an area of 290 km2 of the mountain. Nakki
lake located here is very famous tourist destination of
Mount Abu. A Toad Rock is also located here near the lake.
Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are also on the
hills near Nakki Lake. Several Hindu Temple are also located
on the mountain. These temples are Adhar Devi Temple, Shri
Raghunathji Temple and a shrine and temple to Dattatreya.
Dattatreya temple is located on the top of the Guru Shikhar
Peak. Ambika Mata Temple, the Durga Temple, is located on
the cleft of rock in Jagat outside of Mount Abu. There is a
railway station locted on the Abu Road in the low lands 27
km southeast of Mount Abu town. This station is on the main
Indian Railways line between Delhi, Palampur and Ahmedabad.
