Pushkar, a holy city in Rajasthan, is
famous for its Brahma temple, lake, ghats and bazaar. It is
the town in Rajasthan state. Pushkar is located km northwest
from Ajmer. It is called “Tirth Raj” means the king of
pilgrimage sites and one of the sacred dhams. Pushkar has
become a popular tourist destination for foreigners. A
legend is there which associates creation of Pushkar with
Lord Brahma. It is a site of so many temples and not many of
temples are old because Aurangjeb had destroyed many of
them. Brahma temple is the most famous and the only temple
of the deity Brahma in the world. Pushkar means born due to
flower. Hindus believe that a swan released by the gods with
a lotus in its beak and fell it on the earth where Brahma
would perform a grand Yagna. This place was called Pushkar
where the lotus fell. Pushkar Cattle fair is held in October
and November. During this time, the city is full with
tourists. Otherwise, this city remains quite peaceful and
clean. Pushkar lies on the shore of Pushkar lake. There are
5 main temples, many smaller temples, 52 ghats, Pilgrims
used to descend to the lake to take a dip in the sacred
water. This town is also popular for Annual Pushkar Camel
Fair. Pushakr Lake is the principal attraction of Pushkar
which is sacred as Mansarovar lake of Tibet. This holy lake
is the reason for Pushkar to become a place of Hindu
pilgrimage. A legend is also associated with this lake. This
lake was sanctified to Lord Brahma, the creator of the
universe when a lotus dropped from his hand and the lake
emerged at that place. Savitri temple is the temple of the
Goddess Durga, located at the top of the Ratnagiri hills.
Goddess Savitri is the wife of Lord Brahma. One can enjoy
candle dinner at the rooftop of the restaurant at the guest
house.
